I originally put this site together because one day I was listening to my Tribe CD's as I've done often over the last 12 years since I bought them. And I got to thinking about the band and that I didn't know that much about them. So I went online to do a Google search to see what kind of information would come up. There was not much information out there at all. I found a few ancient articles and the All Music Guide bio and that was about it.
I had recently been laid off from a job I had for 14 years in the screen-printing industry, which I was trying desperately to get out of. 3 years earlier I had taken an extensive course in graphic / web design. I didn't realize it would be next to impossible to get a job in that field without experience. So while I was laid off and looking for a job in the screen-printing industry I had some extra time on my hands. With all the free time I had I started working on a Tribe website to keep my HTML skills from getting rusty.
It is now over two years later and thanks to quite a few Tribe fans that felt the same way as I did I now have lots of information on the site. Lots of fans found the site because they where doing exactly the same thing I was. Listening to great music by a great band. Tribe’s music has stood the test of time. It sounds as fresh if not fresher than anything that is out now. The one thing that we are all hoping for, I believe, is that we get to see this great band play live at least one more time. If it happens first of all, I will get to take more pictures. As a photographer I live to take pictures at concerts. I love to be able to freeze a moment in time with my camera. To this day I cannot figure out why I only took 4 shots of Tribe at the one show I went to. I think I must have been scared that security would take my film if I got caught.
Janet, Greg, Eric, Terri & Dave please consider doing this if not for you… for us the fans. I know that you could easily sellout the Paradise.

Hey,
I still listen to the CDs, I went to maybe 5 shows, the first one was actually in my college dorm back in 91.
I went to a show really close to the end. It was at some college out in Worcester. Afterwards I was pretty bummed, Tribe was a really really really great band to see live. Songs are great and the execution onstage was flawless and really something to behold. I could not think of a more exciting show to see than a Tribe reunion!
A fan for life. - Jeff Booth

Steve:
Have you heard of anything on a possible reunion. I probably mistakenly thought there was a little momentum building up for a couple of gigs at the end of 2006. Any information would be great - Thank you once again for all the work you do with the website.

Any information would be great - Thank you once again for all the work you do with the website. Tim Conley Ok here is what happened with the "reunion". I was somewhat involved in trying to get Tribe to reunite back in January. Friends of mine created and organize the annual Hot Stove Cool Music benefit concert which takes place usually in January at The Paradise Rock Club in Boston and also in the summer at Fenway Park. I heard through the grapevine that they where interested in having Tribe play at the January show. I contacted some of the members of Tribe to see if there was any interest in playing the show. Some members of the band where somewhat interested in playing while others where really interested in playing, and still others where not interested at all. A reunion cannot happen if all parties are not willing to take part. They all look back fondly at their time together as a band. They all lead busy lives, and have moved on to other things. However, if circumstances change and for some reason they change their minds… I am pretty sure that I could get them on the bill for a future Hot Stove Cool Music.

Thanks Steve - doesn't sound overly promising. Do you know if Janet has any projects on the horizon. I am just guessing that Greg, Eric, Terri have minimal interest. Thanks for all your efforts - this site has really made appreciate all the performances I was fortunate enough to see Tribe

Steve:
My vote is yes.
We emailed about 6 months or so ago, and the Tribe site has really matured since that time, and I've vectored a few friends over to check it out. You should take some solace in the fact that you're in communications with the band such that something like Hot Stove is even regarded as an open discussion today.
I think that Tribe "falling off the map" after having such a local presence for so many years is/was somewhat unusual, and was tough to swallow for the band's many fans. Janet played out solo for a relatively short time. I saw her show at The Met in Providence (R.I.P.) and I didn't sense what she was doing was that far afoot from Tribe, just a logical progression. The fact that she did an entire solo album that fans can't purchase is just a head-scratcher, especially in these days of cult followings sparked by the Internet.
My take is that if the band were to reunite and do some local shows (a la Extreme in '06), they could easily to a solid run through the Northeast for several weeks. Sonically, they've aged well and would find an easy home alongside some of today's acts. I think Janet would find the same receptiveness. Question for all of them is do you upset your careers for two weeks/month to pursue such an endeavor?

I'd see them...
I remember seeing them at some summer in Kendall but mainly playing at some car dealership (some WFNX sponsored thing to win a a yellow MR2 I think) and they kept blowing the fuses in the place...
Thanks for posting all the MP3s. I have the last two albums on cassette, but my last working tape player has seen better days, and I'd rather not have it chew up those either...
Also my friend took my copy of the original 'ABORT' EP the year it was released, I never got it back... Looking forward to hearing that version again as well...

It is truly a mystery as to why a band this good just stopped making music. They were so close to really making it, only to be done in by the emergence of grunge. What I don't understand is why there is so little info and/or video on the band. In this age of Youtube, you would think there would be plenty of concert video shot in the Boston club scene back in the day, but the only live performance I can find is the Conan appearance. Does anyone know how one might get their hands on Janet's solo album? Is she still playing live?

Tribe was one of the best bands to come out of the 90's. While I'm sure they had their reasons, their break-up to me will always go down as a mystery. I think if we all writ enough letters to them we could guilt them into a reunion tour. I'm not below a guilt trip or two if it means seeing one of my favorite bands of all time one last time... are you?
Shawn
PS Thanks for this site I found it looking for the same reasons you built it.

I bought 'Abort' in New Zealand of all places way back in whenever it was - 1989??? fantastic album, and 'Sleeper' was great as well. Got to London (UK) in 1995 and went online to see where Tribe were playing in the US so I could see them live and to my horror read that they had broken up. I have NO idea why these guys didn't get global recognition - Abort was every bit as good as Nevermind, and they deserved to be an internatiional sensation. 'Outside' still ranks as one of my all-time favourite songs.
Janet and co, if you read this, I am one of the guys you emailed back in 1999/2000 in New Zealand. I would get on a plane and come to Boston just to see you guys play live. I've seen the Eagles and Springsteen and Floyd, the last great band I wanna see live is you guys. Email me with dates... pleeeeeeze :-) stan,goodvibes@gmail.com
p.s. Steve. Good on ya man, I have searched the web for years to find out more about Tribe. Good job, buddy *big hug* ;-)
