At last, a fan site for one of the greatest Boston bands! Do you know how long I have searched the internet for more info about this band?
I've seen Tribe probably close to a dozen times, back when they were doing the rounds between Grover's & Edible Rex and the clubs in town, all the FNX best of Boston shows, but my favorite show was at The Channel right when they were signed, they had a "Goodbye Boston" type show. Everyone was happy, the band was incredible. Good times.
Anyway, tonite I rummaged thru my old cassettes stored away in that big cardboard box in my attic to find the only live Tribe show that I have on tape. It was from The Channel (but not the above mentioned show) & was simulcast on WBCN, a new year's eve show (Jan 1, 1989) - a friend of mine taped the show off of the radio, he caught the show mid-stream. You should note that this is prior to the "Here At The Home" release, in fact Janet mentions that Vigil is on their EP. The set list is as follows:
01 unreleased track (missing opening riffs) 02 unreleased track 03 Daddy's Home 04 Vigil 05 Tied 06 Lemmings 07 Abort
The recording itself is slightly boomy (I think my friend had the levels up a little too high) but it is very listenable. So tonite I converted the cassette to CD to preserve it. I'm not sure how many songs were played before my friend hit record, but these 7 songs are approx 25 minutes total.
I'm not sure if anyone would be interested in this? I'm not even sure if the band would approve of circulating it. Perhaps the powers that be here could ask the band if it'd be ok to post MP3 files of the show? I'd gladly help make it happen if we got approval.
Anyone else have any taped Tribe shows?
Tim

Ah! The Grover's and Edible Rex shows......I remember a show at Grover's just as they were signed...a champagne toast at the end of the show,a drunkin'-funky version of Daddy's Home and Dave P. drumming with one hand...a glass of champagne in the other. So, as far as the live recordings.........yep! I made a few. An entire show from The Club Casino, partial from Club Baby Head in Providence and partial from The Hatch Shell. Walkman sound quality, but well worthy of a listen. I don't mind sharing this material, but it'd be nice to get the okay from some band members first. and you know that there's gotta be some real clean copies of entire shows sitting in storage bins somewhere Not sure about anyone else, but I am of course interested in the 1/1/89 WBCN material....and I am hoping that one of the untitled tracks is a song called Goodbye Harry, probably my favorite......and never went much further than Fall 1990 ......and on the topic of Fall 1990, I think I'm coming up on the 16th anniversary of my first Tribe show! Cheers everyone! Keep Tribe alive!

I am sure the band members will not have a problem with sharing some live stuff. They didn't have a problem with me sharing demos and also the "Here At The Home" CD in its entirety. Eric and Greg actually gave me the demos and had no problem with me making them available for everyone to download. I am going to let them know that I have mp3's from the Jan 1, 1989 show at the Channel which was broadcast on BCN. I am also going to let them know I intend to make them available to be downloaded.
The only problem I have is space. I was thinking that if I take down the HATH mp3's I can add the Channel show. Does everyone here have the Here At The Home mp3's? I can always put them back up at a later date. I do have unlimited space on my server, but I also don't want to take advantage.
I have been hoping for just this kind of thing to start happening. I would love to have a few live shows for people to download. I would also love to get my hands on some Tribe videos. It would be great if someone who has the videos could upload them to YouTube.com or Google Video. I have never seen any of them, and I don't know for sure how many they made. I know they where on Conan at least once. They also made a video for Joyride. Dave gave me some pictures from the making of that video.

Steve, I have web space that we can use. I can put the live MP3 files up & you can link to them. I can even put up John's MP3 files as well, if John wants to share them with us.

Hi everyone, glad to see some interest. I was thinking the same thing re: band's permission.....I'm sure they'll be cool with live stuff posted. Just want to be courteous so as not to hinder any possible other goodies they have for us....and I know they do! So, I'm working on my cassette to mp3 project a couple time s a week. I'll make Tribe at The Club Casino my next job. Steve,is it best if I email you the mp3s for that show?? I'll have other stuff as well as I get the time. Email me at johnocz@yahoo.com if you like. Also, as far as the videos...I have super clean copies of both, plus the Conan O'B appearance. I sent an email to Greg L. to get his ok to post them on YouTube, but haven't heard back yet. I think that means "sure,go ahead". So, I'll work on that too. Steve, thanks again for your efforts with this site. johnocz@yahoo.com

They have been cool with letting me share the HATH CD and the 1993 demos. I would be shocked if they didn't want me to share the Live Stuff and the Videos.

Steve, I'll get my show uploaded to some webspace today & email you the link to it. I think because it's only 22mb that I'll just throw them all in a zip file so it can be downloaded all at once rather than seperately.
Hey Dave, maybe you can help us out with the names of the first two tracks!
More to come later.

AWESOME! thank you for posting the show!! sooooo good to hear after all these years.
The name of the first track is "Go." They recorded it during the Sleeper sessions but it didn't make it onto the album (obviously). I promised to make mp3s for the original Sleeper mixes a long time ago, then promptly forgot. Sorry... I'll dig out those old cassettes and convert them soon!

Thank you - I loved hearing Tribe again live. Now if they could only get together for just one reunion gig.
