Went to see the Psychedelic Furs (don't remember now!) and Tribe was off the stage by 9PM or therabouts.
At first, no one was paying much attention to them, including myself since I had never heard of them before.
But Tribe's music is unique in that it is transcendental. The songs take you from one emotional state to a higher one.
Well.
The next thing I remember is that Janet was begging the crowd to dance, but dancing around 9PM in Pittsburgh is an impossibility.
At the same time, the music is slowly elevating my energy until I noticed it.
Then I was hooked.
Line and Sinker.
Now watching the band, mesmerized, absorbing more and more energy. (I think I was crushin' on Janet, but I just don't remember any more.)

At the time I was around 40 years old.
By this age, it is hard for me to listen to an entire rock CD since I get bored with the music real fast because there really isn't that much content.
When I got Abort, if it was a record, I would have worn it out. I listened to that CD constantly for weeks driving about 30 minutes to work and back each way. NO OTHER ROCK CD or RECORD EVER HAD THAT LONGEVITY.
A few other friends at work also got it and and also thought Tribe was of the highest calibre.

I was so moved, I wrote Tribe a letter. They responded and maybe the sent me a few pics. I don't remember now.

To this day, I still have not seen a single band that writes transcendental music like tribe did. (Every once in a long while, a pop band will write a trans tune but they are anomalies and not their true style like it was with Tribe.)

I think Abort was their best CD. And being the finest example of Trans music ever compiled by a rock band, Tribe themselves couldn't top it.

Tom
