In case you missed it Janet recently posted this in the guest book on janetlavalley.com:
Hello All.
Janet here. I've wanted to write for a long time and tell you all--at the same time--how much it means to me that you visit this site [that the awesome Steve Latham put together] and take the time to write to me. Seriously. That what I did meant something to you, and still does. Thank you. And I'm thinking of putting together a disc--acutal hard copy disc--of some/all the songs from the unreleased record. Seems like some of you would like to have that music. I could do the mp3 thing, but me, I like to actually have the CD--whether I end up downloading it or not. Anyway, reading these posts here have inspired me: I'll create original art for it and get the CDs produced. I'll work with Steve about how to get them to you. Again, thanks so much for your continued interest in what I did/am doing. Tribe was a great band that I am so proud to have been a part of. I think we did some really good work. And Norm Demoura and I did some good work too. I think I'm ready to get it out there.
I'm gonna send Steve one more mp3 to put on the site--with lyrics. So watch for that.
More later.
Be kind to one another.
Janet

great news, and I completely agree! While I have downloaded music and like to have digital files, I always get the physical CD as well. I never want to feel like I'm doing something that the artist doesn't want to happen.
(Juliana Hatfield ended up making many outtakes and extra tracks available at one time, and asked people to donate appropriate amounts thru Paypal, another good idea, I think.)
I, for one, would love to hear what the entire album would have (or does) sound like, and I'm sure many of us agree!
However you decide to do it, we all know you're in good hands with Steve!

If Janet is willing to put up another mp3 from the unreleased album, I'd request Dirigible. YES!!! I've been waiting for years for this!

Janet just sent me another mp3 to put up on her site. I will be doing just that in the next couple days! I'm sorry, but it is not Dirigible.
You can download Tribe's demo of Dirigible on the mp3 page.

Here is another message that Janet LaValley just recently posted in the guest book on janetlavalley.com: Hey there you all. Thanks so much for all the posts about wanting to hear my unreleased record. Really makes me really happy--sniff sniff. Just so you know, though, the reason it's so hard to get these songs to you is that the album was recorded in the 1990s, on reel to reel, and there were never any CDs produced, and I never got digital copies of anything but the 4 songs I rerecorded post the dive-bombing of the impending but doomed for extinction solo release. So all I have is a 10-year-old cassette tape of the unmastered album tracks--sounds lame, I know, but seriously, it's the truth! I recently tried digitizing the cassette at one of those places that do that sort of thing for like 50 bucks, with less than stellar results: "This sucks!" said my producer friend upon listening. So I am going to go into the studio and see what magic can be worked with computers and someone who actually knows what they are doing. That's supposed to happen sometime this summer. I also want to include some super-early demos that I bet you don't remember or never even heard! Tee hee. For those of you who want to hear my version of "Dirigible," that's Greg's song and I cannot post it here cause I don't own it. But just so you know, I rocked the nuts out of that song! Anyway, I'm gonna send Steve my remaining mp3 from the final studio session to post here. I never played it live; it was written for the rerelease of the record, which never happened. Sniff sniff. So look for that soon. It's called "Love to Hear You Cry." Thanks again for caring--seriously. It really means so much. Janet, or J-la, if you prefer.I just posted "Love To Hear You Cry" on www.janetlavalley.com

Thanks for posting this! And I await the computer based reconstruction of the solo tracks. Regarding "Dirigible"... surely someone could get in touch with Greg and seek his permission to release J. L.'s version of that track?

Janet, it's so great to hear from you and your enthusiasm is a sheer pleasure! I always love to have physical copies of cd's, no matter what's out there in "Download-land." Myself, I have one of those old-style phonographs that instantly convert vinyl and/or cassettes to cd's (This one is from a company called "Crawley") and they do work rather well. I'm sure all of us would love to hear ANY quality version of it, and whatever you decide to do, we'd be fine with it and extremely appreciative. And even more excited if Greg allows you to post "Dirigible" here, as I remember hearing your version a few times on BCN and it did, indeed, rock!

For what it's worth, I contacted Greg LoPiccolo on facebook. I mentioned Janet's comment about not wanting to release Dirigible because it was his song. I asked him if he would be cool with Janet releasing her version of the track. Greg got back to me and said he was, in fact, cool with this. Sadly, I have no way to contact Janet to inform her of this.

Hi everyone, Just checking in to see if anything new was going on I'm missing (and still hoping for) the could-have-been-should-have-been solo LP. Steve, any updates? And if you're reading this, Janet, I hope all is well, and happy 2012! And I know I may have asked this before (my apologies if so) but were there any studio recordings of the older tracks like "Go" and "Stevie"? Thanks as always

(yes, I'm replying to myself hehe)
What a nice surprise to see and hear "Jube!" It sounds great! Makes me continue to long for the rest of the tracks from the Extrordinary CD, pretty please? Your voice is so gorgeous and from what we've been fortunate enough to hear on the tracks that we've heard, I love the risks that you took, and it further emphasizes that you sure can rock!
