Steve,
Thanks so much for putting all of this together. I've actually been coming to your website for quite a while to look up lyrics (I found it by accident while searching the web for any info on tribe) so I was shocked when I came back recently and found all of this great stuff.
Tribe is one of the few bands that is always in every playlist I make - their music is really amazing. Since I only had Abort and Sleeper, being able to hear some of the songs that I knew were out there but could never find has been great - thanks again.
Steve

I finally decided to stop lurking and join the ranks. I've seen maybe a half dozen Tribe shows back in the day. Kinda sad how not only is Tribe gone, but a good chunk of the clubs I saw them at are gone as well... The Ratt, Bunratti's, The Channel... Oh well. But I still have my 3 Tribe CDs, and still listen to them regularly.
Thanks for the site! I can't tell you how great it is listening to some of those rare tracks. I've heard them do Goldfinger live, and loved it. The intensity of it could strip the paint off a truck. I NEVER thought I'd get to hear it again. The recorded version isn't quite the same as the live, but I'll take it! Now, I don't suppose anyone has a recording of their Gary Numan cover of "Are Friends Electric"......?

Classic! who would have thought that Tribe would make it all the way to New Zealand. I read a review in the weekend paper why back in the day and bought 'Abort'. To this day it still ranks as my favorite record from the 90's, along side David+David 'boomtown', both albums sharing the dubious honour of being criminally neglected by the public.
Although the songs from both Abort and Sleeper now share that late-90's grunge sound, they are STILL very listenable and like most of the posters on here, I still love hearing them. The final guitar outro on Outside brings all sorts of melancholy memories from those years, and I have yet to hear a song with a better buildup to a great guitar riff than 'jakpot'. After all these years I still get goosebumps listening to their songs.
Steve good on you for creating this site. over the years I have searched Google for info about Tribe and this site has really helped fill in the holes. I am not exactly the kind of guy who normally gets obsessional about a band, but there was something about Tribe. God knows they deserved much more international success than they got, and how they slipped thought the cracks while other lesser bands went on to great things will be one of those enduring life mysteries.
p.s. I think I may have lost my copy of 'Abort' before I could burn it to MP3. If any kind soul would like to share their MP3 files with me I would be eternally grateful. stan.goodvibes@gmail.com. I still have Sleeper, just lost Abort.
Keep up the good work Steve. Nice one.
Dave

I just surfed in to see what's been going on at this site and checked out once again the live video of the band performing on the Conan O'Brien Show - the only documented piece of video that we know of with Tribe playing live. I remember when I first saw this piece it flooded me with memories of seeing this great band in the clubs and of who I was back then, and who I was WITH back then, and how much I deeply loved this band back then.
I remember being at The Channel where Tribe was playing their last show as a local band right when they were signed by Slash/Warner - I was to the right of the stage about 5 feet in front of the house speakers and I remember watching them play all of these great songs (that we now know of as classic Tribe songs) and everyone was happy, the band, the audience, rooting this band on, celebrating their success. I will always remember this concert as the best Tribe show that I've seen.
I hope that someone out there comes forward some day with some live video - it would be great to see this band on stage again. And of course a reunion is always welcome.
I'm the one running the Tribe Myspace page, which really isn't much except an extension of this site. Today I happened to take a look at it and noticed that their have been over 2300 profile views, and Joyride has been played over 900 times (in fact all 4 songs listed have had over 700 plays each which is very impressive to get that type of equal play) - I have done very little to seek out "myspace friends" except at the very beginning adding some of the other local Boston bands that existed during Tribe's life, so many of the 250 friends are people who had to seek out this band somehow. None of these numbers may be impressive to anyone, but to me it says that people are still interested in them.
I really want to thank Steve once again for giving Tribe a very thoroughly documented place on the internet, and of course the band for allowing him to do this with their work, and heck, for making the music in the first place!

i would wholeheartedly support a tribe reunion show. i'd travel to see them. my thank you to everyone who has contributed to this site. it's a fantastic resource! i loved hanging out with terri and eric after shows. tribe's music remains a big part of my life to this day. not too much music has stayed with me so well for so long! I'm incredibly thrilled to hear about the use of Outside on rock band, looks like it is introducing many more people to this fabulous music! perhaps the demand for a reunion will be irresistable.. mm?

I've repeatedly gone through the process of registering, without success, however. I have some pretty good photo's of Janet, which I'll upload, if I ever figure out how to do so. I also have some video of Janet, which she may or may not want to see. It's safe with me, unless she gives her consent. My e-mail is roydd@verizon.net Thanks.

i saw Tribe a number of times in Boston, Providence, and even in Paris (PIgal's, not too far from The Moulin Rouge, in 1992). I still play their music all the time and it will always be a direct link to my college days. I'd love to see a reunion show... team them up with O Positive (anyone remember them?!) and we'd be in for a great time!

I'd love to see a reunion show... team them up with O Positive (anyone remember them?!) and we'd be in for a great time! It looks like there will never be a Tribe reunion. Although there is a good chance that O Positive will play again someday. They are all still good friends and they do get together from what I understand. They have played a few benefits in the past few years. I think the last time they played was around 2002 or 2003. They used to have a Christmas party every year and play for friends. I was lucky enough to attend one of those parties back in 98. I ran into Dave Herlihy a few weeks ago at the WBCN Rumble finals at Harpers Ferry. He still looks the same. Dave Martin has put out at least 2 solo albums there was a 3rd in the works. I have exchanged a few e-mails with Dave Martin. He designed a website for O Positive. I let him use a few of my shots on the site. He has a few of the other guys play on his albums. There was also the band Toyboat which was Dave Herlihy, Dave Ingham & Ken Hickey. I had the pleasure of providing them with some pictures to use on the inside of the Toyboat CD. This is not the first time that O Positive has come up on my Tribe Message Board. I find that kind of interesting. You can find out more info on their website: O Positive's WebsiteMy O+ Pictures

Well I just recently discovered Tribe via Rock Band and decided do a quick Google, thinking they were a relatively new band. To my surprise they were long gone, but thanks to wikipedia, I found this website and quickly fell in love with their music. I was far too young the even care about music when they were active (I'd say about 8 or 9), but hey it's never too late to discover great music.
I guess what I am trying to say is thanks for this website, you're not only helping people find a band again, you're helping a younger generation find them and helping the memories of Tribe live on.

I want to add my thanks for setting up this board! Doesn't look like it gets all that much traffic, but anything to keep alive the memory of one of the greatest bands to EVER come out of Boston is a good thing in my book!

My first exposure to Tribe was their 1993 appearance with Conan O'Brien. I was blown away. By the time I got the VHS deck into record mode, their performance was already half over, and that tape is who-knows-where after three relo's. I've looked for an online video of that segment for years, so many and bigbee thanks for loading it on your site here. I look forward to exploring the site in depth as time allows -- truly awesome band, and so happy you put this all together. Peace.

I too want to mention what a positive influence Tribe, and especially Janet had on me. Some of my favorite memories of 'back in the day' were at Tribe shows. I still have my "Here at the Home" casette. I agree with whomever said Tribe/Janet just didn't get a fair shake. They were WAY ahead of their time and produced some of the most amazing music. Period. I hope only good things for all the band members, especially Janet. God bless!

Hello? I'm still checking in here occasionally, hoping that we get more surprises and an update from Janet? I'm sure I'm not alone in saying we'd love to hear any versions, old or new, of the Extraordinary CD that was never to be.
